Rat Care
Rats are wonderful loving companions!
They are smart, affectionate, clean, and they bond with their owners similar to dogs. Rats are quite intelligent and can learn tricks and to come
to their name. They can also be litter box trained.
Rats make wonder pets for children as well, as they are large enough to hold for little hands, don't kick and scratch with their back feet, are quiet in the house, and rarely, if ever, bite.
NEVER hold a rat by their tail. They can sustain a degloving injury where the skin and tissue on their tail is sheared and torn off the bone. It is very painful, will need veterinary care and antibiotics, and possibly need amputation.
Rats do have a few areas of care where special attention needs to be given. Under this tab I have included some information about which all of you should be familiar:
Cages and Bedding
Diet
Forbidden Foods
